“We brought together retirement experts from the world of government, big tech, media, tax, and risk experts and contrast them with a group of real people facing real retirements to bring you the Psychology of Retirement. Ultimately, we wanted to introduce the retirement conversation in your family and we thought there would be no easier way than to give you a big, comfy chair and a bag of popcorn.”

What the Experts said:
“Unfortunately, over 50% of Americans are relying solely or primarily on Social Security. People are living longer and longer. You know, when Social Security was formed, people didn’t live much beyond 65 years of age.
The Government has grown too big, promised too much, subsidized too many, and lost control of it’s finances. The Government is going broke so don’t count on the government taking care of you.”
“Whether they realize it or not, people have made a bet that their taxes in the future are going to be lower than they are today. And no one has stopped to say, “What happens if that bet is wrong?”
What I think a lot of American’s don’t understand is that one of the single largest retirement risks, that they are completely unprepared to address, is the risk that their taxes change because of Washington.”
“We are heading towards the most predictable and foreseen cliff imaginable. We know that the Social Security Trust funds will be depleted sometime in the next 10 years.
I want you to start thinking about income as the outcome in retirement. Take some of that asset you have in your 401(k) and turn it into some sort of protected income, on top of Social Security.”
“People spend so much time and effort trying to improve their investment returns, but they can be so ignorant of taxes, even when the tax liability can have a bigger impact on their nest egg than the investment return did.
It is reducing uncertainty and anxiety that tends to be more valued and desired than having a big pot of money that you don’t know what to do with.”
